CNAs, or certified nursing assistants, are commonly found in hospitals and nursing homes in and around Grand Rapids, MI. They are intended to help care for the elderly, or those people who can't perform basic hygiene tasks. CNA's are responsible for feeding the patients and making sure every client is getting the health care they need. To apply for a Grand Rapids CNA job you must take a six to twelve week course and/or pass the state certification test. Many times CNAs also have the ability to become a home health aide, or HHA. They do the same tasks, except they perform them in a patients own home instead of in a hospital. CNA's and HHA's are entry level positions and with additional training they can become a registered nurse (RN) or a certified medicine aide (CMA).After getting your state certification you must remember to renew it. Contact the Michigan Nursing Board to find out when and how to do so. If you are moving you'll want to inform them of your new address. If you’re moving out of state, ask them to make a note for your new CNA job as proof of your certification. It usually takes about a month to get this, so ask for it far in advance. Usually if you haven't practiced your license in a long time, it will have expired, and you will need to get re-certified. Grand Rapids has hundreds of job openings for CNA's at the moment, so as long as you have gotten your certification, your chances of getting a job are quite good.
